Uzbekistan Airways currently operates four flights from Rome Fiumicino, Italy, to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Multi connections are now available due to new service that has been scheduled every Tuesday to Urgench, capital of the Xorazm region in Uzbekistan.

The new route will leave from Roma Leonardo da Vinci airport at 2045 hours, arriving at 0545 the following morning. The return from the Uzbek capital is scheduled at a 1520 local time, to land in Rome at 1915 Italian time.

According to Uzbekistan Airways’ Country Manager, Kushnud Artikov, “Italy is one of the key markets for Uzbekistan Airways.” Italian representatives of GsAir – Uzbekistan Airways’ marketing representative – stated that the increased frequency opens new opportunities for increased business between the two countries. “If in 2017 we recorded almost 37,000 arrivals from Italy, it means that Uzbekistan Airways start[ed] to have a strong attraction among Italian travelers, and we hope to involve some important tour operators to consolidate this appeal.”

Satisfaction for this expansion of the Uzbek company’s flights were also demonstrated by Marco Gobbi, Aeroporti di Roma’s Long-Haul Route & Cargo Manager: “This is another important result in terms of the development of air traffic to the Central Asia area and specifically Uzbekistan, which represents a market with ample potential for development.”

Air traffic, therefore, that can help tourism, one of the four points at the center of the development plan wanted by the Uzbek government together with investments, the economy, and foreign trade. During a promotional evening, the head of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Italy, Rustam Kayumov; the President of the Italy-Uzbekistan Association, Ugo Intini; and an expert of the country, Professor Magda Pedace, explained to the tour operators and other Italian guests the peculiarities of this emerging destination, from the legendary Samarcanda known for its mosques and mausoleums on the Silk Road to the capital of Tashkent.
