World Tourism Organization made a decision to create a Regional Office for the Americas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

During an official trip to Brazil, UNWTO has further enhanced its assistance to its Members in the Americas by progressing plans for establishing a dedicated Regional Office for the region.

During the 25th UNWTO General Assembly (held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from October 16th to October 20th), Member States made a decision to create a Regional Office for the Americas in Rio de Janeiro. This new office will strengthen the worldwide presence of UNWTO by complementing the existing Regional Office for the Middle East in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a Regional Office in Nara, Japan, and the organization’s headquarters in Madrid, Spain.

Following the General Assembly’s outlined plans, a special ceremony was organized by UNWTO and the Government of Brazil to commemorate the official agreement for the Regional Office.

The commencement of the project is being hailed as a significant chance to elevate Brazil’s position as a prominent tourism powerhouse in the Americas and a top-tier global destination.

The main objective of the Americas Regional Office is to enhance the promotion of investments. A primary deliverable will involve the development of guidelines to stimulate green investments, acknowledging the significance of biodiversity for tourism in the Americas. Additionally, the Rio office will formulate a strategy to provide technical training opportunities for young individuals, enabling them to acquire the necessary professional skills required for fostering sectoral growth across the region.

The UNWTO delegation participated in festivities honoring exceptional tourism professionals and leaders in Brazil during their official visit to Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia from December 13th to 17th. At the National Tourism Awards ceremony in Brasilia on December 16th, deserving individuals and innovative initiatives that are making a positive impact on the industry were acknowledged. Additionally, the UNWTO delegation attended the official inauguration of the National Hall of Tourism.
