A top-notch ultra-luxury secluded private island resort in the Maldives was devastated by giant inferno that engulfed the property on Wednesday around 11 pm local time.

Video footage from the scene show Gili Lankanfushi luxury villas going up in flames, as scared visitors scream in the background. Footage filmed off the coast of the tropical resort shows its shores fully engulfed in flames. Judging by the videos, the luxury gateway surrounded by pristine blue waters of a lagoon may have been completely wiped out.

Gili Lankanfushi is located a 20-minute speedboat ride away from the Male International Airport, the main international airport in the Maldives. The resort prides itself on being built “using ecofriendly materials” and “authentic style” design.

It is so far unclear what had triggered the blaze, the resort said in a statement on Twitter, adding that all its guests and staff have been evacuated from the island and provided shelter.

No injuries or deaths have been reported so far.

The extent of the damage inflicted on the resort by the sweeping fires is yet to be assessed, pending “a full investigation.”

Last year, the hotel was ranked among the top five best hotels in the world by TripAdvisor, and is the number one hotel in Maldives.
