As part of Sinalei Reef Resort & Spa’s ever-evolving efforts to ensure a healthier and greener earth, the team is proud to announce their involvement in the Young Pacific Leaders’ (YPL) 2019 carbon offsetting drive.

YPL is a network of Pacific leaders working together to address the global challenges impacting the region, and is supported by the US Embassy, Samoa; the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, Samoa; and the Samoa Conservation Society.

The YPL carbon offsetting drive seeks to neutralise the CO2 gases emitted by the travel of all delegates who attended the YPL 2019 conference, raise the profile of environmental challenges affecting Samoa – and the world at large – and inspire support for the nation’s ambitious objective to plant two million trees by 2020.

Sinalei Marketing and Business Development Manager, Nelson Annandale, said the resort sent a group of staff and guests to Vailima National Reserve on Friday 10 May to participate in the tree-planting drive.

“In the past we’ve donated money to the drive to assist in buying trees,” he said. “This year we volunteered both staff and guests to help with the planting and I’m proud to say our group planted 200 trees.”

“The YPL plan on organising regular planting sessions this year, so we will be involved in whatever capacity is required,” he said. “It’s heart warming to see our team members and guests combining forces to protect Samoa and the planet.”

This news comes off the back of the resort recently pledging its support for the South Pacific Sustainable Tourism Network.

Bringing together likeminded stakeholders from across the region, including individuals, businesses, government agencies and experts, the network aims to safeguard the region’s cultural heritage and ensure the local environment is protected for generations to come.

“The program aims to promote collaboration among hotels to implement grassroots initiatives that address pressing island-wide challenges, such as plastic waste reduction,” Nelson said.
