The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), jointly with the General Secretariat of the Andean Community (CAN), will organize the “Regional Meeting on Migration and Migration Policies in Latin America and the Caribbean” on 22 March in Lima, Peru.

The meeting will address the elements that determine migratory flows and their impact on the labour market of the countries of the region. It will also discuss about the importance of the phenomenon of migration, particularly its impact on issues relating urban planning, the labour market, capital movements and citizen security.

The Permanent Secretariat of SELA will present the document entitled “Migration Movements: A determinant of national productive capacities, the case of the Andean countries,” which collects the proposed indicators, with a working methodology that will allow for expanding and maintaining the database on the process of migration flows at the regional level and which will serve as the basis for the discussions at the meeting.

Participants will include authorities from important regional organizations, such as ACS, PA, ECLAC, FLACSO, MERCOSUR, OECD, IOM and SICA.

Both the opening and the closing sessions will count on the presence of the Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and the Secretary General of CAN, Dr. Walker San Miguel.
