New Deputy Assistant Secretary for Travel and Tourism at the International Trade Administration named.

Alex Lasry has taken the oath as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Travel and Tourism at the International Trade Administration (ITA). In his capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) and implementing the National Travel and Tourism Strategy of the Biden-Harris Administration. The objective is to bolster the global competitiveness of the U.S. travel industry and preserve America’s standing as a premier choice for international travelers.

Alex has over ten years of experience in both the public and private sectors, making him a prominent figure in Wisconsin’s business and community leadership. Recently, he served as a Senior Vice President and co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, where he played a pivotal role in elevating the team to become one of the top franchises in the National Basketball Association (NBA). In 2021, the Bucks achieved their first NBA Championship in 50 years under his guidance. Alex was responsible for driving the Bucks’ corporate social responsibility initiatives and leading the collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to establish the Deer District, a popular destination in downtown Milwaukee. Additionally, he championed workforce development programs and successfully negotiated a groundbreaking project labor agreement, resulting in the creation of numerous union jobs.

Alex spearheaded the triumphant endeavor to secure the 2020 Democratic National Convention as Milwaukee’s host. In his role as the Chair of the Milwaukee 2020 Bid Committee and the Finance Chair for the Democratic Convention’s Host Committee, he played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s successful execution.

Alex worked in the Office of Public Engagement & Intergovernmental Affairs at the Obama White House. Initially, they served as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff and then went on to become the Deputy Counselor for Strategic Engagement. They graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania and obtained an M.B.A. degree from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
