Multi-million dollar art program completed for Atlantis, The Palm – Dubai

NEW YORK, NY – Joan Warren-Grady, art advisor to luxury hotels worldwide, has recently completed a multi-million dollar art program for Atlantis, The Palm – Dubai, UAE, adding to her client list of more than 200 hotels internationally from New York to Dubai, Miami to Tokyo, and Atlanta to Cairo.

Set on the Palm Island Jumeirah, Atlantis is the first hotel to open on the Emirate’s long-awaited, man-made island. Atlantis, The Palm – Dubai exhibits the integration of fantasy, luxury, adventure, and world-class entertainment. Warren-Grady designed the art program with the intention of enhancing the fantasy of a guest’s experience. In a tribute to the surrounding sea, designers and artists from around the world contributed to a collection of sculptures, paintings, photographs, ceramics, and hand-painted murals in vibrant color and of stunning scale.

As visitors enter the grand lobby, they are met by the spectacular work of world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly and his soaring, 32-feet high, vertical sculpture created from 3,000 pieces of individual, blown glass that spiral in radiant blues and greens, culminating at the top in fiery oranges, yellows ,and reds. As a visual compliment, surrounding the circular entrance are eight wall murals by Spanish artist Albino Gonzalez, which tell the stories of Atlantis, in a kaleidoscope of colors, through depictions of the solar calendar, constellations, and mythology, a theme carried throughout the collection.

The Atlantis, The Palm collection includes works by hundreds of artists, all of which were selected by Warren-Grady to give guests the experience of what it was like to actually visit Atlantis. San Francisco artists Charley Brown and Mark Evans were commissioned to create faux tapestries in the main lobby, as well as several large murals for seven grand domes, some of which are as large as 2,000 square feet, and can be seen in Tower of the Moon, Tower of the Sun, and The Garden of the Sea. Additional featured artists include, Terje Lundaas whose collage of over 52 ornate hand-blown glass shells compliments the tapestries in the grand lobby; Berkeley artist Lynn Klein’s beautifully-detailed works on silk, featured in the VIP Lounge, depicting underwater sea life; and EverGreene of New York who completed elaborate murals throughout the property.
