Kerala, the southern Indian state, has recorded a 9-year high in visitor arrivals during 2017. Inbound visitor numbers were boosted by a dizzy 10.94% last year, with actual numbers climbing by 1.55 million, to an aggregate of 15.7 million from 14.2 million, in the previous year.

Famous for its backwater boat rides, ayurvedic wellness spas, and massage centers, beaches, and promoted by the highly-successful tourism tag line – God’s Own Country – Kerala has been in the forefront of India’s tourism promotion effort to lure tourists.

While domestic tourism contributed a hefty increased figure of 11.3%, or 14.6 million, international visitors accounted for 5.1 % or 1.09 million. According to Kadakampally Surendran, Kerala’s Minister of Tourism, the statistics of increasing footfalls is very encouraging, and the current promotional strategies will continue by the ministry.
