Chile shaken by strong earthquake.

A very strong 6.7 earthquake struck Chile today, January 20, 2019, at 01:32:51 UTC. The epicenter was located just 9.7 miles SSW of Coquimbo.

According to reports at volcanodiscovery.com, some witnesses staying in hotels felt violent to moderate shaking:

Marriot Santiago:  On 10th floor of 24 floor hotel in Santiago. Room started swinging, TV shaking, curtains swinging. Felt disoriented and quickly moved to door jam, sitting on floor until swinging subsided about after 30 seconds.

Copiapo:  We were at the seventh floor of à hôtel. We live in Vanuatu and are used to hav[ing an] earthquake… At seventh floor this is another story. Seems to never stop… We are out waiting for [after shocks]. Nothing is down in town or appears broken.

Santiago:  We are staying in Santiago at the icon hotel on the 8th floor, and the building was shaking. Called reception to ask if it was a quake and was told no it isn’t. Wow. That was rocking.

Vin Del Mar:  On 7th floor of 8 floor hotel. Bed was rocking, doors and windows rattling for 30 seconds or more.

Santiago:  The hotel I am in swayed. I was on the 6 floor; the walls creaked and the floor moved.
