LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced re-certification of the Movenpick Hotel Istanbul in Turkey.

LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced re-certification of the Movenpick Hotel Istanbul in Turkey. In line with Movenpick Hotels & Resorts’ philosophy to contribute to a positive future, Europe’s leading business hotel is committed to continuously improve sustainability efforts, and social and environmental values have been placed at the center of all actions.

“For someone who is personally a dedicated environmentalist, the news that Movenpick Hotel Istanbul [is] being re-certified is extremely exciting and sends out a powerful message about our commitment to preserving the planet for future generations,” said Frank Reichenbach, General Manager at Movenpick Hotel Istanbul and Regional Manager Turkey, “We did receive an impressive 94% score during the first audit in 2012 and succeeded in achieving all mandatory criteria for 2013 at the second audit, joining other environment and sustainability-accredited Movenpick properties across Europe. Sustainability is an important part of our business model, and I am proud that we are taking [the] lead and setting the standard for other hotel brands worldwide. I congratulate the leader of the project, our Director of Human Resources, Ceren Akyuz, and everyone at our hotel, who helped us earn certification and who contributes to a greener, healthier tomorrow.”

A long-term sustainability management system is in effect at Movenpick Hotel Istanbul, where energy and water consumption is recorded on a monthly basis. Waste volume, weight, and reduction goals are specified, and a comprehensive reuse and recycle policy is in place. The Movenpick Hotel Istanbul implemented a pro-active purchasing policy that favors environmentally-friendly products, and external stakeholder communications strategy designed to drive awareness among local partners. Guests are encouraged to minimize their carbon footprint and learn about sustainability efforts, and the area’s nature, history, and culture. A special Green Team, formed of a group of employees from different departments and with various responsibilities, monitors the progress of green measures, shaping and realizing the hotel’s environmental goals.

Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: “We are delighted to award re-certification to the Movenpick Hotel Istanbul. Movenpick Hotels & Resorts’ commitment goes beyond environmental sustainability, and the company sets new benchmarks in the luxury hotel industry worldwide. In Turkey, we also have the Movenpick Hotel Izmir certified, and [are] looking forward to adding the newest property, the Movenpick Hotel Ankara, soon. Movenpick Hotels and Resorts is one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe Certification for all properties worldwide.”
