Rome, Naples and Bari in Italy are now connected with Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt by Air Cairo. This is good news for Sharm El Sheikh tourism.

Low-cost airline Air Cairo is owned 60% by Egypt Air, a Star Alliance Member.

“We are also flying from Malpensa to Alessandria (Egypt) every Tuesday,” added Essam Azab, Air Cairo’s commercial director in an interview with eTN  in Rome. A plan was announced for a new air link between Italy and Borg El Arab, a Mediterranean coast region that can be compared with Italian Sardina Island.

Borg El Arab is located about 45 kilometers southwest of Alexandria and some seven kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. North of Borg El Arab is the King Maryut resort and Lake Maryut. The airport, Borg El Arab Airport, serves nearly 250,000 passengers every year. Borg El Arab is widely considered an extension of the city of Alexandria.

On April 23, 1973 Egyptian President Anwar Sadat met with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad at the presidential resort in Borg El Arab for two days of detailed discussions in preparation for the joint offensive on Israel which launched the Yom Kippur War. President Hosni Mubarak performed the formal inauguration of the city in November 1988.

Starting from October 28, Air Cairo’s winter season schedule will include flights from Milan Malpensa Airport to Luxor, with one weekly frequency every Monday.

Also on Monday, starting from the end of October, Air Cairo inaugurates the flight from Malpensa to Hurghada on the Red Sea, a renowned resort. Flights complete connecting Milan with Egyptian resort regions  Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam, that are already serviced from Milan.

In addition, Air Cairo’s winter schedule includes two new routes from Italy that have been confirmed: Venice to Sharm El Sheikh and Bologna to Sharm el-Sheikh. Flights will operate from Venice every Friday and from Bologna every Sunday.

Air Cairo’s fleet consists of eight Airbus A320s and a Boeing 737-800, with plans to  increase the fleet to 18 aircraft by 2020.
