Lobuche is a small settlement near Mount Everest in the Khumbu region of Nepal. According to the 2011 National Census, Lobuche Village has a population of 86 people living permanently in the highlands and 24 households.
Lobuche was the center of a 7.1 earthquake less than an hour ago.
Lobuche is on the Chinese border with Tibet. Tibet reported a minimum of 9 people died. Altogether reports estimate the death rate to be 32 and climbing.
Reports on X say it was felt in Kathmandu as if a huge earthquake had been felt for 30-40 seconds. People were running out on the streets. According to numerous eTN sources, no damages or injuries were reported in the Capital city.
Tremors were felt in Nepal, Tibet, and India. The earth moved even on the plains of India, like Bihar and UP.
USGS said shaking in Kathmandu was categorized as weak. (III)
